About Sarakku

Sarakku is a free app and website for Tamil Nadu: what every TASMAC bottle costs, and which shop near you has it on the shelf tonight.

What Sarakku does

Prices at TASMAC are fixed by law and identical in every shop. Stock is not: the bottle you want may be at one shop and missing two streets away. Sarakku puts both in one place, for all 38 districts:

The Android app has been on Google Play since 21 September 2026 and the iPhone app on the App Store since 26 September 2026. Both are free, with no ads and no account needed.

How our data works

Prices. Every price is the maximum retail price from TASMAC's own published product list, refreshed every night. MRP is the same in every TASMAC shop in the state. From October 2026 the counter also adds a ₹10 deposit per bottle, refunded when the empty is returned; it is not part of the MRP.

Stock. We read the stock TASMAC publishes for each shop every 30 minutes through the day and hourly overnight, across more than 4,800 shop numbers. A shop page shows the count it was last read at. Counts can lag a delivery, so a bottle that has just arrived may show up at the next count.

Sales estimates. Pulse and "sold today" figures are estimates worked out from how stock falls between counts. They are marked "est." wherever they appear. Restock days can make them read low.

Shops. The shop list is TASMAC's own. A shop that has not shown any stock for four days is treated as inactive and left off the app's map until stock appears again. Closures announced by the government, like the 717 shops closed in 2026, are tracked from the official list.

Dry days. Dry days come from the government's announcements; when every shop in a district stops selling without notice, the app shows that too, as an unconfirmed closure.

What Sarakku does not do

Sarakku does not sell, book or deliver alcohol, and takes no payment of any kind. To buy, you go to the shop. Sarakku is for adults: the legal drinking age in Tamil Nadu is 21.

Corrections

If a price, a shop or a count looks wrong, email [email protected] with the shop number if there is one. In the app, a shop's page also lets you mark it closed or report being charged over MRP; those reports show on the shop once enough people agree.
