TASMAC Elite shops: the full list, where they are, and what they actually stock
"Elite" is the word on the board outside an air-conditioned TASMAC shop, and the word people search for when they want a bottle an ordinary shop will not have. There are 199 of them among Tamil Nadu's 4,852 TASMAC shops. We count every shelf in the state through the day, so instead of a listicle we can tell you where they are, how much more they really carry — and the part nobody publishes: half of them have nothing above ₹3,000 on the shelf.
What "Elite" means — and what it does not
Elite is a licence class, not a shelf. TASMAC runs it as its air-conditioned format, typically in a mall or a commercial complex, with a larger range and a proper counter. That is where the guarantee ends. Nothing about the class obliges the shop to hold imported whisky or a ₹7,000 cognac on a given day, and the stock data says many do not.
The price is the one thing that never changes. MRP is fixed by the state and identical in every TASMAC shop, Elite or not — there is no "Elite price list", only the price list. An Elite shop sells you more choices, not a different bill.
Where the 199 Elite shops are
Chennai has more than a third of them. Nine districts have none at all.

The Nilgiris is the surprise: a district of 73 shops where nearly one in five is Elite, which is the tourist trade talking. Madurai, the state's third-largest district by shops (231), has six. Every shop in every district, with its number, is on the shop number list.
Elite is range, not volume
At the last count an Elite shop had 105 different products on the shelf on average against 60 in an ordinary shop — but almost exactly the same number of bottles (9,941 against 10,257). Elite shops are not bigger. They are broader.

Read the fourth row again. 102 of the 199 Elite shops had no product above ₹3,000 in stock at all. The Elite board on the door is worth a wider ordinary range; it is not, on its own, worth a trip for a single malt. If the bottle you want costs more than ₹3,000, the shop to go to is one of 118 in the whole state — 97 Elite and 21 ordinary — and the way to know which is to check the shelf before you leave.

Two things stand out. The whole top of the table is Anna Nagar, Velachery, Egmore and the malls — the two Anna Nagar shops between them carry more products above ₹3,000 than most districts have Elite shops. And the first non-Chennai entry is third: Coimbatore's #1572 out-stocks every mall in the capital bar two.
What is on an Elite shelf
The products that define the class are the ones an ordinary shop essentially never carries. These were the most widely stocked bottles priced ₹3,000 and above across the 199 Elite shops at the last count — and how many ordinary shops had the same bottle.

Hennessy VS is the cleanest test of the class: 62 Elite shops, zero ordinary ones. If a shop has it, it is an Elite shop; if you want it, only 62 of 4,852 shops will do. The two exceptions — Jaisalmer gin and Amrut Amalgam — are the Indian premium bottles that a handful of ordinary shops have started to carry, which is the ordinary range creeping upward, not the Elite class creeping down.
How to use this
For an everyday bottle, ignore the board. Same price, same brandy, and the ordinary shop is closer. For anything above ₹3,000, check the shelf first. Half the Elite shops will not have it, and the 97 that might are listed above and on the district shop lists, Elite-tagged.
